How to Watch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Everything You Need to Know

How to Watch A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: Everything You Need to Know

The Game of Thrones universe has a new corner to explore, and this one trades the Iron Throne for muddy tournament fields and hedge knights. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is HBO’s latest entry in the Song of Ice and Fire franchise, and if you’ve been wondering when it airs, where to stream it, and what it’s actually about, here’s the rundown.

When Does It Premiere?

The series debuted on Sunday, January 18, 2026 in the US and Canada, with UK and Australian audiences getting it a day later on January 19. New episodes roll out weekly on Sundays at 10pm ET/PT, following the same release rhythm HBO used for House of the Dragon. If you missed the buildup, you can revisit the official trailer breakdown from before launch.

Where to Watch

Your options depend on where you live:

In the US, it’s streaming on HBO Max (plans start around $10.99/month) or airing on the HBO linear channel. Canadian viewers can catch it on Crave, while Australians can find it on HBO Max as well. In the UK, it’s available through Sky TV or the NOW streaming service. If you’re outside these regions, a reputable VPN pointed at your home country’s service is the usual workaround.

What’s the Story?

The show adapts George R.R. Martin’s novella The Hedge Knight, the first in his Dunk and Egg series (you can read our episode 1 review for our first impressions). It follows Ser Duncan the Tall, known as “Dunk,” a towering, penniless hedge knight, and his young squire Egg, as they make their way to a tournament at Ashford Meadow. Along the way, they get pulled into the kind of political entanglements that tend to follow anyone wandering too close to Targaryen business.

Timeline-wise, the series sits roughly 100 years after the events of House of the Dragon and about 90 years before the original Game of Thrones. It’s a quieter, more grounded chapter in the Targaryen dynasty’s slow decline, following characters who are, notably, nowhere near the throne. For more on how the timeline fits together, see our look at the prophecy beneath the series.

Who’s In It?

The cast is led by Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall and Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon Targaryen (“Egg”). They’re joined by Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion Targaryen and Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor Targaryen. The supporting cast has grown steadily too, with additions like Peter Mullan as Ser Eustace Osgrey, Babou Ceesay as Ser Bennis, and Lucy Boynton as Lady Rohanne Webber for season two. Created by George R.R. Martin alongside Ira Parker, the show runs six episodes at roughly 30 minutes apiece. It’s a tighter, more intimate format than its predecessors.

Should You Watch It?

If you’ve missed the ground-level, character-driven storytelling of early Game of Thrones, before the scale ballooned into dragons and armies, this one’s aimed squarely at you. It’s a smaller story, but that’s rather the point. Curious how it ties into the wider saga? Take a look at how the series connects Westeros’ great houses, and keep an eye out for season 2, already filming and targeting a 2027 premiere.
